According to the latest study from Microsoft, more than 40% of the global workforce is planning on changing their working places in the next 12 months. Quite often, it’s the poor software engineer career conditions that lead to increased staff turnover.
Developers acknowledge the uniqueness of their skills and the high demand for IT specialists; thus, they are willing to change the working place easily in search of better employers.
Therefore, here are some tips to help you establish a friendly software engineer working environment.
Access to great equipment:
Office workers usually don’t require the latest software and will feel comfortable using simple hard drives and CPUs. They rarely open several applications or programs at the same time, so they don’t feel the need for new operating systems or computer details. However, for developers and other IT specialists, equipment is crucial and plays a significant role in making their workspace convenient. Since developers always need maximum horsepower, pushing hard drives and CPUs to the limits, giving them several screens, smartphones and tablets for testing are crucial.
Fostering a collaborative environment
Building a collaborative community among developers enables experienced developers to share their methods, techniques and assets with less-experienced colleagues, making it easier to transfer knowledge and onboard new developers.
Eradicate Unnecessary Obstacles
Today’s developers need an environment that enables them to develop and test on mainframe platforms as quickly and efficiently as other systems. Otherwise, organizations often find themselves in a situation where one application component (arguably the most important one) cannot keep up with other components, dragging the entire development effort.
Promote a Continuous Learning Culture
An essential component of effective leadership is to provide opportunities for professional development. To that end, you should promote lifelong education by enabling self-directed learning and investing in employee development.
Conclusion:
It is critical to have the right kind of developer workplace culture — one that emphasizes collaboration; removes frustrating obstacles in delivering end-to-end applications; and provides ongoing, specific feedback that developers need to get better at their jobs.
Providing a modern development environment that enables programmers of all skill levels to develop and test on mainframe platforms as quickly and efficiently as other systems are also imperative.
