Every day, we see rapid changes in technology, and they can be difficult to keep up with. In 2023, we can expect a revolution in UX Design, but what can we expect this to look like?

An increase in voice-activated devices:

One change we could expect to see is a further rise in voice-activated products and smart assistants. We are all guilty of shouting ‘Alexa!’, ‘Okay Google…’ or ‘Hey Siri’ at least once in a while. Millions of people rely upon these smart devices, with 54% of all owners of voice-activated devices using them at least once a day. We can expect an increase in the number of voice-activated assistants in various industries, ranging from hospitality to finance. As technology advances further, I believe that we will see these devices playing an even more integral role in personal and professional landscapes, therefore is a trend UX Designers should look out and adapt to.

Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI):

Another projected change we could observe is the growth of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is a gateway to customising content and creating a more personalised user experience. With advances in this form of technology, users will have an experience tailored to their preferences and behaviours, which I think will revolutionise user design as more customised and engaging experiences are delivered to users.

Dark Colours and 3D Images:

Closely related to virtual reality (VR), we can expect to increase the popularity of 3D images since they create a more realistic experience for users, allowing them to immerse themselves fully into their tech experiences. Moreover, we have already seen dark settings become more popular, with examples including the new and popular ‘dark mode’ on apple technology. It is said that dark colours create a more relaxing setting, which is particularly important as we see technology becoming more and more prevalent in our lives, encouraging users to maintain attention and complete tasks quicker.

To conclude, I believe that the future of UX Design holds a whole new world of ideas and exploration. In 2023, it is certain that we will see exponential growth in the ways UX Designers can improve user experiences. Every day, we see new technological tools being made available for UX Designers to refine the user experience to its optimum!
